Who are the American Theocrats?

Ahmanson

Rushdoony
Rousas John Rushdoony (1916-2001) a staunch neo-Calvinist, wrote the Institutes of Biblical Law, a blueprint for Reconstruction of Christian civilization on the model of ancient Israel, at the Chalcedon Institute in southern California.

Rushdoony's work at Chalcedon was financed by  Howard Ahmanson, Jr, heir to the Home Savings, Inc. fortune. Ahmanson had fallen under Rushdoony's pastoral care after he was discharged from a two year stay at the  the Menninger psychiatric clinic .

Ahmanson left Rushdoony's tightly structured Calvinist  community to carry the theocratic agenda to the Episcopal church, where he has ardently opposed the ordination of homosexual priests. When Rushdoony died in 2001, Ahmanson was at his bedside.

Ahmanson has been the principal backer of several Religious Right political initiatives, including Prop 8, the 2008 California Marriage Protection Act.
